Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q

Mack "Doc" Holiday built Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q on the principle that barbecue and a proper country store belong in the same room. The original location opened in San Antonio in 1989 and has since grown into a small chain, but the formula hasn't changed: oak-fired meat, a working retail space, and the unhurried confidence of a place that's been doing this for over three decades.

It sits on the west side of the city near Leon Springs, a deliberate distance from downtown traffic. The wood smoke is real, the hours are long, and the setup is straightforward — order at the counter, eat what comes off the pit. No pretense about what this is or why you're here.

Rudy's has become the kind of place people drive to on purpose, not by accident. That's what happens when you commit to one thing and do it properly for long enough.
