Rudy's brings Texas barbecue and a country store to Killeen, wood-fired and unhurried.
Some people want barbecue before the day gets away from them; the Killeen Rudy's, on East Central Texas Expressway, opens at seven for exactly that. It's the Rudy's format — oak smoke, a country store, sold by the pound over butcher paper — from a chain that began as a 1929 Leon Springs filling station and added barbecue in 1989. Open to nine on weeknights, later on weekends.
