Black's BBQ
The Atlas Review
The BBQ Atlas
Black's BBQ is what happens when a family starts cooking in 1932 and never stops.
This is the original location, the one Edgar Black Sr. opened on North Main Street in 1932. Lockhart calls itself the Barbecue Capital of Texas, and Black's has been here longer than most people have been alive — low and slow over post-oak wood, the way it was done then and the way it's done now.
The restaurant runs seven days a week, closing at eight most nights and half past on Fridays and Saturdays. It's a working pit, not a museum. Show up, order, eat. That's the deal.
