The St. Charles Sugarfire, on Elm Point Industrial Drive, does the brand's chef-driven barbecue plainly and well: ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and the daily specials that are half the reason to come back. Mike Johnson and Carolyn Downs built Sugarfire around exactly that — dependable barbecue and a kitchen that likes to experiment — and the dessert case is Downs's doing.
