Rudy's is a gas station, a grocery, and a barbecue joint sharing one roof — a format that traces back to Rudolph Aue's 1929 filling station in Leon Springs, where barbecue joined the menu in 1989. The Houston store on Northwest Freeway opens at seven and runs late, selling oak-smoked brisket, ribs and sausage by the pound over butcher paper. Get the creamed corn; regulars insist on it.
